Senior BJP leader Suresh Raghav Kalicharan has called upon the government to find immediate solution for the traffic problems in Gurgaon as people are suffering immensely because of traffic jams, lack of parking space, and poor infrastructure.

Raghav said that traffic chaos was the most serious issue in Gurgaon as the quality of transport infrastructure seems to have deteriorated. The volume of traffic has grown manifold, leading to perpetual jams at key intersections. He also raised issues like poorly planned road intersections, inadequate public transport and shortage of parking space.

Raghav further said that there was an urgent need for sustainable, integrated solutions for solving transport and traffic problems of Gurgaon. He also called for a strategic development plan and its proper implementation to reduce the crisis in the city. Raghav said that the MCG had announced plans for multi-story parkings in the city but that did not materialize, and the plan to rebuild the bus stand, and make it better has also remained in abeyance. There is need to have a modern traffic control system in the city which could help in the proper movement of vehicles. He also said that government agencies should work in coordination and improve the chowks and intersections that include Rajiv Chowk, Hero Honda Chowk and others need to be planned better.

Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway has become a major bottleneck, the shared auto system is not working, there is need to extend the metro system to Old City and Manesar. Raghav hoped that the new government in the state would take note of the fact that Gurgaon is one of the highest revenue generators of the state, and plan a transport system which can take the entire load of traffic, and thus help in easing the movement of commuters. He also called on focusing on non-motorized mode of transport, and an end to the culture of big cars dominating the city roads.
