Gurgaon has suffered greatly in the last one decade mainly because of the indifference of the Congress government, which seemed more interested to develop only certain areas in the State. The failure of the local elected representatives to put up a fight on behalf of the people also played an important part in the sidelining of Gurgaon and Southern Haryana. However, the decision to (switch sides and) go wholeheartedly with the BJP has reaped rich dividends for the politicians of this area. The BJP has rewarded not only Rao Inderjit Singh (Gurgaon MP), by making him the MoS Defence at the Centre, but has also given ministerial births in the Haryana Cabinet to Rao Narbir Singh (MLA from Badshahpur). The most positive signal has been the decision by CM Manohar Lal Khattar to appoint Jawahar Yadav, who is based in Gurgaon, as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in his office. It has become clear that Gurgaon, which was off the radar in the previous government, is now well in everyone’s sight. Speaking to Friday Gurgaon, Jawahar Yadav made it clear that the BJP government wants to end regional disparity and discrimination and will bring development and employment to all parts of the State. In Gurgaon, the primary focus will be on completing various civic infrastructure projects. For example, the city and nearby areas are forever ‘choked’, due to the non-completion of key roads and flyovers. “The government is keen to complete the Dwarka Expressway (Northern Peripheral Road) and the Southern Peripheral Road (Golf Course Extension Road), and to also find a solution to the Hero Honda Chowk mess,” said Yadav. The government will also focus on expanding the capacity of the Civil Hospital, to facilitate the availability of quality healthcare to every section of society. Yadav added that BJP wants to ensure that government schools across Haryana become effectively functional. For Gurgaon, a key area of immediate concern is on how to integrate the Gurgaon Manesar Urban Complex Master Plan 2031 with the plan made by the NCR Planning Board. To ensure a better-planned development and synergy in efforts, the State government will now better co-ordinate and co-operate with the NCR Planning Board. He also reiterated the commitment of the BJP government to investigate all ‘shady’ land deals, especially in and around Gurgaon, which have deprived the farmers of their lands and have been executed by ‘twisting’ of the law and by taking advantage of ‘loopholes’. Yadav promised, “We will provide transparent and accountable governance in Haryana.”
